Who We Are

Silverlake Community Church is a small Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation in the City of Angels with a long heritage being a light in the darkness, a sanctuary to feel any emotions, and a place to see God's Word put into action.

This is a church where anybody is welcome to earnestly—though imperfectly—live by Jesus's teachings and make our little piece of the Kingdom a more safe, joyful, and just place to live.

We Aim to Achieve Three Things:

1. Follow Jesus

"I am the way, the truth, and the life." – John 14:6a

We invite anyone seeking a relationship with Christ to join us. Whether you are considering Jesus for the first time, a new Christian, or have been walking with Him for years, this is a place where you can grow.

We do this in three ways:

  • Developing a personal devotional life with Christ.

  • Gathering weekly for worship as a community.

  • Meeting in small groups throughout the week for deeper connection.

No one seeks Christ alone. We strengthen our relationship with God by strengthening our relationships with each other — one opportunity at a time.

 2. Serve the Community

"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice, to set the oppressed free?" – Isaiah 58:6-7

Silverlake Church is not defined by a rigid institutional structure. We do not seek to maintain an institution for its own sake; rather, we are led by the Holy Spirit, ready to shift and change as God calls us.

  • Local Outreach: We focus on helping the homeless and hungry in Silver Lake, ensuring our faith is lived out through tangible acts of love.

  • Global Impact: Our compassion extends beyond borders, supporting women and children in Burundi, Africa.

  • Spirit-Led Adaptability: Like Paul in Acts 16:6-10, we remain open to God’s call, wherever it may lead us.

But our hope isn’t passive—it is certain. Revelation 22:1-3 reminds us that God’s kingdom is already breaking into the world, and we are empowered by that hope. We don’t just wait for heaven; we work now to form relationships, serve the marginalized, and bring God’s justice and mercy into the present.

Our mission is an enacted prayer — as we serve, we anticipate and embody the coming Kingdom of God in the here and now.

3. Let Folks Gather Together

"Speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the head, that is, Christ." – Ephesians 4:15-16

At SLCC, we don’t measure success by numbers — we measure it by the depth of our fellowship. Our goal is to build a community of transformation, healing, and love by creating spaces where people can gather, grow, and support one another.

  • Support & Growth Groups: From AA meetings to classes on faith and life, we offer spaces where people can heal, learn, and connect.

  • Fellowship & Fun: We build relationships not just in pews, but in small groups, service projects, and even karaoke nights with our young adult group.

  • The Certain Hope of God's Kingdom: We work alongside other congregations, partnering for the good of the world, embodying the hope of heaven here on earth.

Just as the body of Christ is “joined and held together” (Ephesians 4:16), we believe that gathering together is a sacred act — one that strengthens us, deepens our faith, and, through us, makes the love of Christ real.
