Operation 2nd Wave!! There are a variety of important donation items for folks* affected by the fires and those who serve them. The only issue is that donation centers are FILLED with stuff, and many places aren’t accepting anymore. SELAH and SLCC received so many donations ourselves that we a) ran out of space to put things and b) couldn’t find any organizations that needed any more. So…
If you would like to make a donation of any of the items below, start buying them, collecting them or stowing them in your trunk. On February 1st we will open the doors for donations again. Anything the church or SELAH can’t use for our own response we will funnel to evac centers and organizations that are providing direct services.
2nd Wave Items:
Travel size hygiene products (must be full)
Disposable cutlery, plates, cups and to-go containers (We know—not good for the planet—but desperate times…)
Plastic storage bins (with lids)
Toilet Paper (just don’t buy out Costco and cause a panic!)
* Unhoused and housing-insecure folks have been affected in a variety of direct and indirect ways by the fires, even if they were not living in the evacuation zones. All items donated will go first to address the needs of this population. Excess donations will be given to trusted organizations dealing with fire victims.
2) DONATE MONEY
Serving neighbors who are homeless and/or food in-secure is woven into Silver Lake Community Church's DNA. For this reason, we are trying to adapt quickly to meet the needs of those who have become homeless or food-insecure as a result of the recent "Eaton Fire" in Altadena. Any money donated here will go specifically towards putting food in mouths, clothes on backs, gas in tanks, and encouragement in the hearts of these folks.
NOTE: Any money left in this account at the end of the disaster period will be rolled over into our ongoing work with unhoused Angelenos and the partnership with SELAH Neighborhood Coalition.
For victims, evacuees, and responders. Also, ask God how you can help, whether that be through donations, volunteering, or just being a listening ear for someone who is grieving. We love our community so much and will continue to pray/help out in any way that we can as we figure out what’s next.
